I do not like musicials !

I do not like musicals. My wife usually drags me to a movie musical with me kicking and screaming all the way. I spend most of my time during the movies checking my watch to see how much time I have left to endure the torture. The only movie musical I ever enjoyed was "West Side Story"until today. Today I went to see "Burlesque"I loved this movie. First of all the film has "Cher" who gave her usual great performance as the owner of a neo-burlesque nightclub trying to avoid foreclosure from the bank. Christina Aquilera makes her dramatic debut as Ali, a small-town singer who takes her shot at stardom performing at the nightclub. I  am sorry to say that Cher only sings two songs in this film, I wish there was more. The real singing star is Aquilera, I am now a big fan of hers after seeing and hearing her performance. I enjoyed this film from the opening scene till the end. The music was upbeat and fun , the dance numbers were great , as were the costumes. It was well done. Go see this movie on the big screen, enjoy.

Love and Other Drugs

I kind of liked this movie, I don"t think I would pay movie ticket price to see it, but it"s a good rental. It was billed as a romantic comedy/drama, It was funny in parts and had good story . I like Jake Gyllenhaal as a dramatic actor, not so much in a comedy. Ann Hathaway role is a departure from some of her previous roles, but I though she did a good job.  She is a beautiful young lady, I thought the nudity was a bit much, but I must say I enjoyed it.                                           Meg:  Doug a movie star...I can see that'   Back in 1962 when I was in the Air Force I bunked with a guy Named Jerry Akin who had a brother who  was a movie actor in Hollywood at the time, I don"t recall his name but he was in several movies at the time, only bit parts and never may it big. Anyway
he told me he went out to visit his brother and  met Rock Hudson at a party there. His brother told him at the time that Rock Hudson was gay and everyone knew it except the public. When Jerry told me this I didn"t believe him, found out different several years later.  Still watch  his movies, was never a very good actor.

Tangled

I took my grandson to see the movie "Tangled" the other day. I must admit I really enjoyed this movie which is surprising since I am no a big fan of animated films. I thought it was going be a long couple of hours when I walked into the theater and saw about a hundred kids running and jumping around, . To my great relief as soon as the movie started, until the end , the theater was quiet except for a few outburst of  crying by one small child. I must admit that animation has come a long way over the past several decades. The richness of colors was outstanding, the music was great, and the lyrics were funny , following the story line. Maybe in my old age I am regressing back into my childhood, that"s  o.k. .  I say go see this film on the big screen, you will enjoy it no matter what your age.

Faster

Went to the movies today with the intent on seeing " The Next Three Days " but arrived too late so I opt to go see "Faster" staring Dwayne "the rock" Johnson and Bill Bob Thornton. Johnson plays a excon out to avenge his brother's death after a bank heist several years earlier. Thornton play a cop who is ending his career with a drug habit and a broken marriage. Upon release from prison Johnson's character starts tracking down one by one the people who killed this brother. The film is fast pace, violent,.lots of action and several plot twist with a surprise ending. Johnson did a pretty good job, I think his acting improves with each film, as always Thornton gives a good performance. I though it was well directed, and very enjoyable.

new blog first post.

Sam helped me create this blog several weeks ago, finally getting around to posting my comments on movies I"ve seen, T.V. shows and just about  anything else I might have a opinion on, good or bad, interesting or not.  So my first post on this blog in going to be about two films that I have seen recently. Lost week I saw "Morning Glory", staring Rachel McAdams, Harrison Ford and Dian Keaton. I enjoyed the movie. A funny look at the behind the scenes of producing a morning news/entertainment show. Rachel's character is a newly hired producer of the morning show. Ford and Keaton are the morning co anchors . I  Think McAdams character was too perky, Keaton 's too nice and Ford too angry. Overall a pretty good movie, a good rental.
This week I saw "unstoppable"  I enjoyed the film but I think it is best seen as a rental.  The previews had you believing that the main plot was a runaway train  on a collision course with another train with 150 children aboard.  This event occurs in the first 15 minutes and the crash is avoided by simply side tracking the train to another track . The remainder of the film deal with stopping the runaway train before it derails in a big city. This film stars Denzel Washington and Chris Pine. The film has great music, it is fast paced, but a predictable end.  Not much of a plot, however enjoyable to watch.
Well that's my first post. I know I am not very good at this, hope to improve as I go along.
